FROM MODEL TO INTERIOR DESIGNER
The transition to interior design was natural for designer Tracy Murdock,
who through modeling and fashion had already developed her own
distinct personal style. It is no surprise how well her sense
of style would transcend into interior design. Tracy began her
visual design training in the 1980's as a model in front of the
camera. In 1983 she caught the professional - and the personal
- eye of men's wear designer and perfumer, Bijan (Pakzad).
He immediately signed Tracy to be "the Bijan girl," where she became
one of the most recognized faces on national billboards, shooting
several successful ad campaigns with some of the most renowned
photographers in the world, including Francesco Scavullo and the late Bill
King.

THE MURDOCK EFFECT
In 1999 Tracy married billionaire financier and developer David
H. Murdock, whom she refers to as her design mentor. It was during this
time that Tracy became exposed to interior design through her involvement
with David in his many development projects; such as the multi million dollar
development of homes in the exclusive enclave of Sherwood Country Club in
Thousand Oaks, California and the development of vacation homes on Murdock’s’
private Hawaiian Island of Lanai. It was here she began what she refers
to as her "interior design enlightenment." She describes Murdock
as a postmodern renaissance man who is a voracious reader and whose mantra
is "knowledge is power."
"David was extremely generous to me with
his knowledge, and my tutelage under him was quite accelerated
and very intense. He would always say; 'Start with the very best
quality and this will automatically weed out the mediocre or
inferior.'" That wisdom and their travels together all over the
world have imprinted and shaped Tracy's style today.
